Equipment

The MIT Fab Lab project has grown into an international network of labs that typically include a common suite of machines and equipment, thus enabling a distributed learning and collaboration.

Currently, Fab Lab DC has a vinyl cutter, mini-mill, desk-top 3D printer, 12″ x 24″ 30w laser cutter, and some soldering stations.  Our aim is to add a CNC router and a large scale laser cutter.  In the meantime, we have an arrangement for CNC use.

Vinyl Cutter

The Roland CAMM-1 SERVO GX-24 vinyl cutter allows you to create professional-grade graphics and signs.

Mini-Mill

The Roland MDX-20 is used for molding and casting by machining modeling wax and for milling circuit boards.

Desktop 3D Printer

The uP! portable, desk-top 3D printer uses an additive process to ‘print’ digital models as solid forms in ABS plastic.

CNC Router

We’re working to acquire the ShopBot  CNC, which is a gantry-based CNC router for cutting, drilling, carving and machining of wood, plastic, aluminum, and other materials.  You can help!

Laser Cutter

Through a generous foundation donation, we’ve added a 12″ x 24″, 30w, Universal laser cutter!!

We’re also working to add a large scale CO2 Laser, which can engrave and cut a variety of materials including wood, acrylic, plastic, delrin, cloth, leather, melamine, paper, rubber, veneer, cork, and more.  You can help!
